Lancaster Wows Debut Crowd 8-2 (4/28)(story by http://lancasterbarnstormers.com/) The excitement returned to Clipper Magazine Stadium Friday night as Denny Harriger fired seven strong innings leading the Lancaster Barnstormers to an 8-2 win over the Road Warriors in front of a stadium record crowd of 7,731 in the season opener for both clubs. Harriger (1-0) allowed five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out six in his Barnstormers debut. He was reached for a Teuris Olivares homer to left in the third inning after the right-hander retired the first eight batters he faced. The fourth inning provided the biggest challenge for the 36-year old Pennsylvania native. He issued his lone walk to Sheldon Fulse and moved him to second on a wild pitch. Mike Huggins drilled a single into right center, plating Fulse with the second run of the night. Marcos Sanchez grounded a single into right field, but Chris Van Rossum cut the rally short, gunning Huggins down at third. Former Barnstormer Jason Bryan grounded into a slickly turned 3-6-1 double play to end the inning. Only one more runner reached second base. Lancaster opened up a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Jason Bowers drew a seven-pitch walk to start the uprising. Quincy Foster knotted the game at 1-1 with a long double to left center. Travis Hake filled in first base with a walk, then one out later, Jose Ortiz ripped a two-run double inside the third base bag. Alex Hernandez and Jutt Hileman knocked consecutive singles into center for a 4-1 lead against Brian Miller (0-1). A fifth run scored on a throwing error. Foster singled home a run in the sixth. Lancaster’s last two runs crossed on bases-loaded walks in the seventh. Local pitchers Matt Knox and Eric Ackerman each worked a scoreless inning for the Barnstormers to wrap up the game. |
