Riversharks Stall Warriors 3-2 (7/2)

CAMDEN, N.J. --- On a hot and steamy afternoon, the Riversharks kept their cool and overcame an early lead by the Road Warriors to win the series, 3-2.

The Road Warriors jumped to the early lead in the top of the first as Nick Ortiz led off with a single. Bernie Gonzalez moved Ortiz across the plate on an RBI single off Greg Powell (3-7). Powell went seven innings with six hits and two earned runs.

The Riversharks got their first run of the afternoon on a solo shot to right from Pedro Swann, giving him 7 on the year. The Warriors answered right back in the top of the fifth with their own solo home run from the bat of Jason Bryan. Then the score was notched at 2-2 with an RBI groundout from Alejandro Freire to score Javy Rodriguez who reached with a single.

The seventh saw the ‘Sharks pull ahead 3-2. Ryan Jones doubled to center and advanced to third on a pass ball. Jones then scored on a fielder’s choice RBI from Matt Demarco.

Reliever Chuck Bechtel, appearing in his final game as a Rivershark before starting to train at the Philadelphia Fire Academy, entered in the eighth, striking out two to work his way out of a bases loaded jam. Chris Fussell came on to close the game for the ‘Sharks, sitting the Warriors down in order to earn his ninth save of the season.
