Ducks Run Out of Gas, Warriors Win in 11th 5-1 (5/30)(Central Islip, N.Y., May 30, 2006) – Following a splendid pitcher’s duel that featured ten scoreless innings and fine plays by both teams defensively, the Road Warriors scratched out five runs in the top of the eleventh inning to out-distance the Long Island Ducks by a final of 5-1 on Tuesday evening at Citibank Park. Heading into the eleventh locked in a scoreless tie, the Road Warriors touched up reliever Pete Hartmann for five runs on five hits to take the lead. Mel Stocker scored the Ducks lone run on a double play ground out in the home half of the frame to erase the Warriors bid for a shutout. Melvin Pizarro (1-5) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits and a walk in two relief innings. Hartmann (2-2) absorbed the loss after allowing the Road Warriors five-run eleventh. Ducks starter Andrew Lorraine did not factor into the decision after allowing nine hits and a pair of walks in 7.1 scoreless frames. Kyle Goldwater was just as impressive for the Road Warriors, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four in a nine inning outing. |
