Warriors Road Kill Bears 8-6 (6/22)NEWARK, NJ – June 22, 2006 – The Newark Bears dropped the final game of the three-game series against the Road Warriors 8-6, Thursday evening at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The Bears were led by first baseman Alexis Hernandez extending his hitting streak to ten games, going 2-for-4 at the plate including two home runs (fourth and fifth on the season), with two runs scored and three RBI. Hernandez put the Bears on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to left field, and gave the Bears a 6-5 lead with a two-run home run to right field to cap a five run bottom of the third inning. Right fielder Will Pennyfeather added a bases clearing three-run double in that inning scoring third baseman Jack Santora, second baseman Liu Rodriguez, and left fielder Jose Herrera, to give him 34 RBI on the season. With the scored tied at 6 in the top of the fifth inning, Road Warriors first baseman Mike Huggins hit a solo home run, his seventh of the season, and catcher Sandy Aracena ripped an RBI double to give the Road Warriors the 8-6 edge. Aracena led the Road Warriors offense going 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI. Nick Maness (1-2) took the loss for the Bears after allowing three runs on three hits in three innings out of the bullpen, while Kyle Goldwater (4-2) earned the victory throwing 126 pitches, allowing six runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. Julio Guerrero picked up his second save of the season. |
