Bears Pass Warriors on Walk Off 10th inning Single 4-3 (5/18)NEWARK, NJ – May 18, 2006 – Bears right fielder Michael Moore hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning, scoring Will Pennyfeather as the Newark Bears defeated the Road Warriors 4-3, at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Bears have won two-straight games for the first time this season, and improved to .500 with an 8-8 record. Moore led the Bears offense going 2-for-3 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI. In addition to his walk-off single, Moore hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. It was Moore’s league leading fifth home run on the season, passing Road Warriors infielder Nick Ortiz. Former Bear Teuris Olivaras went 2-for-4 for the Road Warriors, including a solo home run in the top of the third inning, his third of the season, to put the Road Warriors ahead 1-0, and a double in the top of the sixth inning, in which he later came around to score on Marco Sanchez’s RBI double, to tie the game at 2. With the Bears trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, center fielder Doug Devore hit a solo home run, his third of the season, off the top of the wall and over to tie the game at 3 and force extra innings. Bears starter Pat Daneker received a no decision after pitching 7 innings giving up 2 runs while striking out 7. Lodi native Silvio Censale (2-0) earned the victory after pitching 2 scoreless innings, while former Bear Melvin Pizarro (0-3) took the loss yielding 1 run on 2 hits in 1 2/3 innings. |
