Road Warriors Dump Ducks 15-7 (5/31)(Central Islip, N.Y., May 31, 2006) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Road Warriors, 15-7, on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Long Island remains in first place in the Atlantic League North Division with a 17-11 record, leading second place Bridgeport by 1.5 games. Trailing 3-0 heading into the fifth, the Road Warriors scored five runs on four hits to take the lead and never looked back. They put up a six-spot the following frame and added three more in the seventh and one in the ninth. Long Island rallied for three runs in the ninth to make the score 15-7, but could not come any closer. Alberto Castillo (1-2) picked up the win after allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over five innings of work. Damian Moss (0-3) took the loss after yielding five runs on four hits and five walks while fanning six in a five-inning outing. First baseman Rob Cafiero made a spot appearance as a relief pitcher for manager Don McCormack and struck out a pair, while allowing just one run on two hits over the game’s final 2.2 frames. Erick Almonte led the Ducks offense, finishing the night with two runs scored and a double. Dominick Ambrosini drove in the Ducks first two runs in the opening frame with a two-run triple and scored later in the inning. Mel Stocker and Kevin Haverbush added a pair of hits apiece. |
