Mahomes Supresses Warriors 6-1 (7/9)(Central Islip, N.Y., July 9, 2006) – Pat Mahomes tossed his second consecutive complete game to lift the Ducks to a 6-1 victory over the Road Warriors on Sunday. With the win, Long Island remains a half-game ahead of Bridgeport in the North Division standings. The Ducks will take on the Atlantic City Surf tomorrow night to decide the Atlantic League North Division’s first half champion. With a win, Long Island will make their third straight appearance in the postseason. In his third complete game of the season, Mahomes (8-4) set the stage for Long Island to compete for the first half North Division title tomorrow night against Atlantic City. The former Met yielded a run on six hits while fanning five and walking none. The Ducks offense broke up the pitcher’s duel between Mahomes and Road Warriors starter Matt Scheuing in the fifth when Erick Almonte scored on a mishandled ball by third baseman Derek Barrows. Later in the frame, Carlos Hernandez was walked with the bases loaded to plate Tony Schrager and give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. The Flock would go on to add a run in the sixth and a three spot in the eighth. The Road Warriors lone run came on a Jason Bryan home run in the seventh. |
