Bears Overtake Road Warriors 6-5 (7/19)NEWARK, NJ – July 19, 2006 – Trailing the Road Warriors 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Newark Bears scored three runs to take a 6-5, and go on to win in front of 6,423 fans at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium Wednesday evening. The attendance was the third highest in the seven year history of Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Bears catcher Victor Valencia and second baseman Matt Brunson led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back walks. After shortstop Liu Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, left-fielder Jose Herrera grounded out to first base to cut the deficit to 5-4. Designated hitter Dario Delgado followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Brunson to tie the game, and center-fielder Anthony Sanders ripped a two-out RBI single scoring Rodriguez to give the Bears the lead. Bears first baseman Alexis Hernandez hit a two-run home run to cut the Road Warriors lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth. It was Hernandez’s eighth home run and 21st and 22nd RBI since signing with the Bears on June 12. Offensively, the Bears were lead by Sanders going 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI, while center-fielder Sheldon Fulse led the Road Warriors finishing the day 3-for-4 with three singles, including one in the top of the fifth when the Road Warriors hit sixth straight to take a 4-1 lead, one run scored and one RBI. Enemencio Pacheco (2-2) earned the victory for the Bears allowing one run in one inning of relief with one strikeout, while Cesar Herrera (1-2) takes the loss after allowing five runs on two hits and two walks in one inning. Bears closer Joey Cole picked up his 12th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
