Warriors Bow to Mighty Ducks of Long Island 3-2 (7/14)(Central Islip, N.Y., July 14, 2006) – The Atlantic League North Division first half champion Ducks started the second half of the season the same way they ended the first half – with a win at Citibank Park. The 3-2 victory over the Road Warriors on Friday night extended Long Island’s winning streak to a season-high seven games. The club is now a win shy of tying the all-time franchise mark for consecutive wins at home. Rob Cafiero snapped the 2-2 tie in the fourth with an RBI single that plated Elvis Pena for what proved to be the game-winning run. After Ducks starter Tony Fiore left the mound after the sixth, Kevin Mannix, Mike Crudale and Kevin Tolar kept the Road Warriors off the board with three hitless shutout frames. Fiore (4-0) picked up the win after yielding a pair of runs on six hits and three walks over six innings of work. Chris Steinborn (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in three innings. Tolar picked up his fifth save of the season after fanning two of the four batters he faced in the ninth. Crudale struck out two of three in the eighth while Mannix fanned one in his scoreless inning of relief. |
